Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil
Biography:
Dr. Carolina Holz Boffo has a PhD in Water Resources and Environmental Sanitation works in Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul since 2001, when she was first admitted as an undergraduate student. The research developed is based on experimental sedimentology, and the main areas are soil erosion, density currents, submarine slope collapse, and stratigraphic simulation. In recent publications, Dr. Boffo proved that seepage is a potential mechanism to trigger collapses in marine slopes, as well as in the formation of density currents with erosive potential to create gullies and canyons. Scientific advances are sought by carrying out multi-instrument simulations, which enable the use of data for upscaling and numerical modelling. Dr. Boffo is currently developing physical models to simulate climate cycles to study the related systems tracts, whose data will be used for stratigraphic models applied to oil and gas reservoirs exploration.
